Day 1. Mapping the composition

Day 2. Understanding values
First. Black and white reference

Then, in one dark value color mixed with white, paint your valued

Day 3. Introducing color

Using only phtalo blue, orange, a bit of yellow and lots of white, map the composition in color. Interestingly, wrong orange will make green with p.blue. the fix is to add a bit of red into the orange to neutralize the green. I used cad. Orange, which is a cool orange and p.blue is cool blue. So mine didn't need any red.

Day 4. Adding more details and texture

Difficult lesson. Interesting usage of tools (foam roller is new to me). But it seems I lost track of my composition

Day 5. Critique and corrections.

Shape of the stones
Wave as reflections and shadows
Add darker thin line outlining the edges of the wave where the water is pooling
Figure out light source & add reflections
Correct horizon line
Take a photo, squint to critique
My result

I am not particularly happy with my result but I understand my shortcomings. And I learned a lot about color mixing. Maybe I will take another shot at this painting.... Or just take new knowledge to my next project.
